Butler University offers over 300 study abroad programs in more than 50 countries to meet the diverse needs of students. You may choose to study for a semester, academic year, or summer term. All students who wish to study abroad must work with the Center for Global Education (CGE).
You may study abroad after you have completed 2 semesters of on-campus classes and as late as your senior year, if allowed by your College. The CGE provides study abroad advising and organizes pre-departure and re-entry sessions to help guide you through the study abroad process, and encourages you to begin considering study abroad as part of your academic planning in your first year at Butler.
Your first step to studying abroad is to attend a general Study Abroad Information Session. Here, you’ll learn all the basics of study abroad, like where you can go, how your aid can apply, how your courses come back to Butler, etc.
Attend a session at least one year prior to studying abroad. Sessions are held by the Center for Global Education (CGE) monthly, and a schedule can be found here.
Work together to determine the ideal semester or summer term in which to study abroad and identify classes that you will need to fulfill while studying abroad in order to stay on track with your academic plan at Butler.
Language ability (if you want to study in a non-English speaking country)
Identity Abroad – understand how your identities and background shape the ways in which you engage others in diverse cultural contexts and experience life abroad
If it’s difficult to identify programs that would satisfy your academic and cultural interests, make an appointment with Study Abroad Advisor Bond St John. Review your program selections with your academic advisor to make sure that courses offered in these programs will complement your course of study at Butler.
